Take Me To Church by Hozier

The gut wrenching song: Take me to church by Hozier, is what I'll be focusing on today. Check out this screencap from April 2018 on youtube. The stats are amazing.

The punch-in-the-face lyrics hit me hard. I don't know where to begin. Churches think being gay is a sin, so the song speaks about rejection, and radical behavior. As I hear it, I can hear  Pastor's going off as well, spouting at the mouth, sharpening his knife. So does the congregation with a shout of Amens.

The former owner of Exodus International, Alan Chambers the gay conversion therapy program had to shut down his business, and give up. He wrote this article on how he was wrong, and that he was never able to convert anyone. He said deep down the reason is..he was afraid God would punish him if he supported it, and I truly think that's where all Christians are. Their perception of God is so twisted and fearful, they can't possibly face this. For two years, I miserably repressed out of deep fear for God. If a stray desire or thought came up, I shot it down.

Sidenote: I am a lesbian, and converted to Christianity two ywars ago, and repressed being gay. Ive took it up again, and don't feel its a sin. It does make you question your faith severely, and the people in it, thats where I'm at. The Pentecostals are so stupid I don't know how to say it. Last year after reading their advice on renouncing things of your past, I said to myself...I renounce lesbianism.  I suddenly felt sick, horror-filled, and stricken. I've felt this way before when I said something that was a lie, and believed it. Everything felt wrong about it, so I repressed that too.

More and more everyday, it seems as if the layers are being ripped off, and I'm seeing that love is on no way a sin.

The song says....we were born sick, you heard them say it....the only heaven I'll go to, is when I'm alone with you.

This infuriates me.

The Evangelist that thinks that God is angry and hates gays is an outrageous lie.

So, I can barely imagine this song because I feel like someone's stabbing me repeatedly.

Something meaty for the main course, That’s a fine looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
He is referring to religious people being on the “high horse”. They are smug and proud. When he says “what you got in the stable”, he is exposing the majority of religious people who act above other people but at truly hiding sins and disobedience in their souls.
Often, religious people become very judgmental because they’ve been told right from wrong. Ironically, a lot of them ignore the wrong they do. Hozier is hinting that, regardless of what you believe, everybody has their flaws.
We’ve a lot of starving faithful.
Here, Hozier is saying that there are a lot of people like him who want to believe in God but refuse to because of the people who worship him with such hypocrisy.
That looks tasty
That looks plenty
This is hungry work.
Hozier is referring to the “high horse” referenced in the previous line as looking tasty. He believes that if they sacrificed their metaphorical “high horse” and ate it, meaning they got rid of it, they would thrive far more than they do by acting above every one.

Christians think their doing God a favor by hating gays, by standing up for straight marriage, they feel they are honoring God. But what is worse? What if God is mortified by their behavior? What if Christians are being hit by Satan, and playing into his hands by hating gays, making their lives miserable, they are going against God's greatest commandment...love your neighbor.

In between fear, worry of what God thinks of me, I had a moment where something popped in my mind...If its torture, its not from God.

Tears come as well as agony, as I see gays and lesbians ripped to shreds for being themselves...so every word in this song hurts.

You can sharpen your knife line speaks volumes about judgement of Christians.

The song ends horribly. His lover is dragged off by radicals, and burned.

I can't embed this one, but here is the YouTube link to the song: Take Me To Church
