Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John
Portland Rose Garden |
In September of 2005, my friend and I moved from Utah to Oregon. As we came into Portland from the highway, my mp3 player hit the perfect song: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, by Elton John.
To me the song meant a new life, as I watched the dusky sunset move over the city, I smiled and saw my future stretched before me.
The song in context is about fame, being sick of it, and wanting to return to a simpler life. Apparently Elton John had issues with Bernie Taupin, his songwriter, and some think he was giving him a message. Let's take it apart for my meaning, maybe you can find what it means to you...
To me it reminds me of people running your life, thinking they know best for you, but your sick of everyone and everything.
So I'm wanting to leave it all behind. My future lies elsewhere.
They'll be upset one day when they find out, but I have to do it, they don't have any claim over me.
I don't look forward to my future its going to be scary but my future lies beyond the yellow brick road...that means whatever you want it to mean based off your own journey.
