Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling Meaning

LYRICS
I pirouette in the dark
I see the stars through me
Tired mechanical heart
Beats til the song disappears
Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!
Shatter me!
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!
If only the clockworks could speak
I wouldn't be so alone
We burn every magnet and spring
And spiral into the unknown
Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!
Shatter me!
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!
If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly
There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same
The world is spinning but only in gray
If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly
There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same
The world is spinning but only in gray
(Only)
Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!
Shatter me!
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!

This amazing song from 2014 is quite famous. Rock Violinist Lindsey Stirling wanted this song to reflect her fear of letting go of Anorexia in her early twenties. She loved Lazy Hale's voice from Halestorm, and wanted to use her for the video. Its amazing!

The video deserves awards. The song expresses the angst, and pain of letting go. The lyrics to me express a woman trapped in an endless cycle. She wants out, but doesn't know until she starts how hard it is to break free. She keeps trying to hold it together, but its impossible. Her world is changing fast, and she has to hold on for dear life, once the wheels are in motion.

For Stirling, who is a Mormon, she said she had to reach for God and find strength to make it.

You can tell in the video her love of Violin would make it easy if she focused on what her talent was. The video shows her breaking like glass, she plays her violin fiercely, and she shatters. A new world is now open to her, as she escapes the ballerina mode in the snow globe.

The part I love is the climax..

There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same
The world is spinning but only in gray
If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly
There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same

I think those who relate to this song will feel like their life is spiralling out of control. They want to change, but are terrified of it. It also has another meaning. You can also make it mean a cry for help..

Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!

The screaming plea with the fast violin brings a sense of urgency to a desperate. situation.
